Through our partnership with Ecologi in 2024, we have supported several impactful environmental projects across the globe, including the planting of 4,466 trees from the start of our involvement.
Since the beginning of our collaboration with Ecologi, Enbecom’s contributions have helped achieve a reduction of 49.9 tonnes of CO2e. This saving is equivalent to 123,802 miles driven in a car or the preservation of 150m² of sea ice!
Ecologi employs cutting-edge climate science, advanced data, and monitoring capabilities to fund projects that deliver measurable environmental benefits. Their initiatives focus on areas such as reforestation, renewable energy, and habitat restoration. Below are some of the projects we have helped to support during 2024:
Repairing Water Boreholes in Eritrea
In Eritrea, a small coastal nation in northeast Africa, only 19% of the population has access to clean water close to home. Many must travel long distances for water or rely on unsafe surface sources like rivers or open wells. The Zoba Debub Community Boreholes project provides hundreds of households in the Zoba Debub district with long-term access to safe, clean drinking water through borehole technology.
Avoiding Methane Emissions from Landfill in Brazil
The Macaúbas Landfill Gas Project addresses the environmental challenge of methane emissions by capturing and converting landfill gas into energy. During its current monitoring phase, the project has prevented the release of 102,580 tCO2e. Alongside reducing methane emissions, the project contributes to the grid’s electricity supply.
Capturing Waste Biogas for Energy in Turkey
The Kayseri Molu Landfill Gas to Energy Project captures methane emissions from landfill waste and converts them into electricity, preventing 30,153 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions each year.
Solar Power Project in Morocco
Morocco relies heavily on fossil fuels, with oil and coal accounting for 57% and 33% of its primary energy, respectively. The Ouarzazate solar station, one of the world’s largest concentrated solar power projects, uses concave mirrors to produce 582 MW of power. It stores up to seven hours of solar energy, enabling electricity generation beyond daylight hours and taking full advantage of the region’s abundant sunshine.
Wind Power Project in Mexico
Despite its significant potential, Mexico’s wind power production in 2009 accounted for just 0.13% of the global total. This project seeks to reduce an average of 245,015 tonnes of CO2e annually over its 20-year operational period.
Peatland Restoration and Conservation in Indonesia
Indonesia holds 36% of the world’s tropical peatlands, which are under severe threat. Between 2000 and 2015, the nation lost an average of 498,000 hectares of forest each year. The Katingan Restoration and Conservation Project in Indonesian Borneo aims to protect and restore 149,800 hectares of vital peatland ecosystems.
Protection of the Matavén Forest in Eastern Colombia
The Matavén REDD+ project protects 1,150,212 hectares of tropical forest, preventing emissions that would otherwise occur. The project also employs local residents as rangers and promotes sustainable, forest-compatible livelihoods.
Distributing Cleaner Cookstoves in Kenya
This initiative plans to distribute over 380,000 clean cookstoves, preventing 4.3 million tonnes of CO2 emissions and reducing wood fuel demand by 2.4 million tonnes.
Turning Local Organic Waste into Electricity in India
India’s rapidly growing energy demands place it among the top global consumers of electricity. This project reduces methane emissions caused by improper waste disposal, achieving annual reductions of up to 70,000 tCO2e. Between 2016 and 2020, it also created 73 local jobs.
Tree Planting
By the end of 2024, we have supported the planting of 4,466 trees since the start of our partnership with Ecologi. Tree planting helps restore healthy ecosystems, sequestering and storing carbon in soil and plant biomass. These projects also contribute to employment, gender equality, diverse food sources, new income streams, and improved community facilities.
